JARA SOFIJA OSTAN
Jara is a Slovenian actor from Ljubljana. From an early age, she found a love for creating and performing, and this started with contemporary dance and cello lessons at the Conservatory for Music and Ballet in Ljubljana. Soon after, she enrolled in various theatre lessons, and her passion for acting grew from there. In 2022, she decided to continue her music education after finishing elementary school and passed the entry test for the Conservatory for Music and Ballet high school. In November 2022, Jara got a role in Šentjakobsko Gledališče’s (Theatre Saint Jacob in Ljubljana) adaptation of Shakespeare’s MUCH ADO FOR NOTHING, playing the pivotal role of ‘Margaret’. This led to a year-long tour of the show across all of Slovenia, and following its completion, Jara was invited to become part of their standing actors ensemble. Jara continued to balance school with auditions for new projects, one of which was director Urška Djukić’s debut feature film LITTLE TROUBLE GIRLS (Kaj ti je deklica). She was cast in the lead role of ‘Lucija’ just after her sixteenth birthday, and six months later, principal photography began. The film premiered at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival as part of the Perspectives competition. It won the FIPRESCI Prize there and was nominated for the GWFF Best First Feature Award and the Teddy Award for Best Feature Film, with critics praising Jara’s mesmerising debut screen performance in the coming-of-age drama.
