MARIA FERNANDA CÂNDIDO
Maria Fernanda Cândido is a Brazilian actor with an extensive career in theatre, television, and film. Her onstage credits include: performing as ‘Cressida’ in Shakespeare’s TROILUS AND CRESSIDA directed by Jô Soares; as ‘Madame Merteuil’ in LES LIAISON DANGEREUSES by Chistopher Hampton & Pierre Choderlos de Laclos which was directed by Mauro Baptista Veiga; and as ‘Becca Corbett’ in THE RABBIT HOLE by Dan Stulbach. On screen, her notable works include: the feature film DOM, which is a contemporary retelling of the novel "Dom Casmurro" written by Brazilian author Joaquim Maria Machado de Assis, and which was directed by Moacir Góes; the role of ‘Livia’ in MY HINDU FRIEND; Luiz Fernando Carvalho’s A PAIXÃO SEGUNDO G.H.; and the television shows FELIZES PARA SEMPRE, THE EDGE OF DESIRE, and TERRA NOSTRA. Maria starred as ‘Maria Cristina’ in Marco Bellocchio’s crime drama THE TRAITOR, which premiered in competition at Cannes, and went on to pickup awards throughout Europe. She is best known to international audiences for her recent key performance as ‘Vicência Santos’ in FANTASTIC BEASTS: THE SECRETS OF DUMBLEDORE, which was directed by David Yates. She is a founding partner of the “Casa do Saber” in São Paulo, a cultural institution dedicated to disseminating ideas and fostering debates on arts, social sciences, philosophy, literature & history, among other subjects.
